Subject:          NYSCC Elects New President

ILION , New York . The New York State Conservation Council (NYSCC) is now under new management.  At the group’s 72nd Annual Convention in late September, Harold L Palmer of Maryland , New York was elected President to lead the sportsmen-conservationist organization in efforts to protect, manage and enhance the natural resources of this State.

President Palmer follows immediate past President Howard Cushing who loyally served the NYSCC for 8 years as a committed volunteer. Mr. Palmer comes to this position with a great deal of experience and background in the issues related to the general mission of the NYSCC. Besides serving as 2nd Vice President of NYSCC (Council), Mr. Palmer has been active on many NYSCC committees, including a recently formed Chronic Wasting Disease Education Committee. Prior to his election to the Vice President position, Mr. Palmer was elected to the NYSCC Board of Directors representing a region of 9 counties.  He has been affiliated and active with such groups as National Wild Turkey federation, Ducks Unlimited, Trout Unlimited, Whitetails Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, NYS Outdoor Writers Association and various others.  His involvement with these organizations will provide further networking and outreach and will be an asset to the future directions of the Council.

When asked what he saw ahead, NYSCC President Palmer said: “My mission as President of the NYSCC is to work with all sportsmen/conservation organizations in NYS to protect our rights.  I will work to inform local, state and national political leaders of our concerns and positions on issues.  Protecting, managing and improving habitat for fish and wildlife and ensuring that the Conservation Fund monies are spent appropriately, will be actively pursued with state and federal agencies. I will continue to lead the fight to allow equal access to all our public resources. I look forward to working with the grass root sportsmen and women of this State to help with these efforts.”
