                                                Date Issued:   January 26, 2006

New York State Conservation Council (NYSCC) President Harold Palmer today announced GREAT NEWS!  Palmer stated, The New York State Assembly and Senate have passed and Governor Pataki has signed legislation restoring $7.5 million to the Conservation Fund to replace monies spent on CWD testing in 2005.  This brings the Conservation Fund out of a deficit, allowing the Conservation Fund monies to be spent on programs that the funds were originally intended for.”  Without these funds there would be no money in the Conservation Fund for fish and wildlife programs in the spring and summer of 2006.

This accomplishment is due in large part to members of the NYSCC and CFAB contacting and speaking to Assembly and Senate members and Governor Pataki.  The New York State Conservation Council will continue to push for $1.5 million needed for CWD testing in 2006.

President Palmer said, “I wish to thank members of the Senate and Assembly who passed the legislation, and Governor Pataki for signing this legislation, as well as everyone who took the time to contact their legislators on this issue.”
