Anti-Sportsmen Activities – researches activities and literature as produced by those in opposition to our mission. Archery & Bowhunting- stays informed on archery and bowhunting proposed new and current laws and regulations, and provides recommendations to the NYSCC membership. The committee acts as sounding board for grassroots concerns on the topics related to archery & bowhunting. Members will work with Federal, State, and Local agencies to accomplish their tasks. Conservation Education - works with various initiatives that bring the outdoor sports to the public of all ages; such as the Aldo Leopold Project, NYSCC Conservation Education Workshop, and Conservation Camps for Youth. The committee works to promote the mission of the NYSCC and wise use and management of our resources through workshops, publications, pamphlets, formal and informal teaching environments and various other outlets. Environment - reviews and maintains a watch on matters that affect the environmental quality of our resources and the impact they have the natural resources of our state and indirectly on our outdoor sports. Various agencies as necessary are involved. Firearms
& Ammunition - addresses issues that
affect the rights of citizens to legally own and use firearms as it affects Fish - monitors fishing laws and regulations, opportunities, needs on a statewide basis, and encourages enhanced fishing access. Committee members also work with the State agencies to review fish production, stocking, health, threats, and limits. Forest Preserve & Public Lands - reviews the rules and regulations concerning forest preserve and public lands in terms of access, acquisition, classifications, management, and use. Open Space, public access, and other public lands usage and acquisition rules monitored as well. Fur Resources- rules, laws and regulations concerning trapping, fur sales, and seasons are studied and recommendations made to various agencies and to NYSCC membership. Proper educational techniques are also reviewed and suggestions made. Game (Big) - communicates with NYS Department of Environmental Conservation on health, management, and other concerns relating to the big game species as found in this state. Rules, regulations and laws reviewed with information being provided to NYSCC membership and others. The committee also makes recommendations to the NYSCC membership concerning proposed NYSCC resolutions which pertain to big game. Emphasis is also placed on hunter ethics, relations with landowners, general liability law, and access. Game (Small) - communicates with NYS Department of Environmental Conservation on health, management, and other concerns relating to the small game species as found in this state. Rules, regulations and laws reviewed with information being provided to NYSCC membership and others. The committee also makes recommendations to the NYSCC membership concerning proposed NYSCC resolutions which pertain to small game. Emphasis is also placed on hunter ethics, relations with landowners, general liability law, and access. In particular the committee has looked at long range pheasant management plans, turkey seasons, use of falconry, gray squirrels, and ruffed grouse, to name a few. Habitat/Access - follow the development of the voluntary habitat access stamp program in NYS. Poster design, stamp appearance, and promotion of the program are reviewed. Input is also provided on the use of the dedicated sub-account of the Conservation Fund for the revenue raised. Recommendations are provided on projects for use of the money collected. Close contact is maintained with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation to carry out the intent of the stamp as well as to educate the sportsmen/women and others on the value of purchasing the voluntary stamp. Hunter Education - monitors and reviews the teaching efforts, content, and training mechanisms to provide well trained, safety conscious and ethical sportsmen/women in NYS. Legislative,
Lobby Team, & March on Law Enforcement - looks at law enforcement concerns regarding present and new rules, regulations and law proposals. The committee also looks at the number of environmental conservation officers in the field and relates that to the effectiveness of being able to protect and enforce the laws relating to our natural resources. Training, responsibilities, violations, as well as the treatment of officers are also reviewed. Public Relations- promote the best means for selling the NYSCC and what it represents. This may be through press releases, pamphlets, media sources and sportsmen in general. Resolutions - committee receives the proposals as submitted by county federations, associate and affiliate members. These proposals set the goals and issues of interest for the NYSCC in the coming year. Some require rule & regulation changes, some legislative and some deal with internal operations of the NYSCC. The committee must review current NYSCC positions and policies and make recommendations on the format and content of the proposed resolution. Waterfowl - works with various state and federal agencies to review, propose, and monitor various rules, regulations and laws concerning waterfowl. The involvement of committee members also includes working with other waterfowl committees and habitat groups from various organizations to assure that waterfowling interests are met. Women, Youth & Families- researches various programs as offered throughout the state for women, youth and families dealing with outdoor sports. Members of the committee work with the Becoming an Outdoors Program held annual in the state. Encouragement as much as possible is made to sportsmen’s clubs to include women in their programs. The committee also encourages the sharing of ideas concerning youth and women programs from the grassroot’s level.
All committees meet at least once a year at the NYSCC Annual Spring Meeting usually held at the end of April. Many met at other times throughout the year via face-to-face meetings, conference calls, and use of mail and email. NYSCC Committees Application Please indicate on which committees
